Everyone probably noticed the collaboration between H&M and Maison Martin Margiela. A brand who's existing since 1988 and who's known for its Avant-Garde and conceptual style throughout the years. Also the house of Martin Margiela became mysteriously "famous" for it's anonymity and low profile approach like the Designer (real name Martijn) himself who never showed his face nor gave an interview to the media. It was him who was against the worship of labels. The always Non-commercial Designer.
Reason why Question marks appeared on my face when I heard about the news. "H&M, the most commercial brand out there having a collaboration with Margiela ??? A brand with a select few of enthusiasts worldwide has become the talk of the town on any blog, fashion website and magazine there is ???" I really don't understand this step the O.T.B Group (Only The Brave - holder Group of Diesel and Maison Martin Margiela) took. Fashion change but the important thing is to maintain the honor of the brands origin and certain habits if you ask me. What happened to the mysterious artist Margiela, what happened to the quality and what do you think ???

OMG Then you MUST READ MY POST! Basically I'm not against buying the collab, but people should know that you are NOT uying margiela, he would never approve of marketed assembly line created low quality pieces of design work other big designers spend years developing, it's the opposite of what he stood for, actually the COMPLETE opposite, sort of like having PETA groups all wear fur or something. I've read so many articles about this and it turns out it's really mostly about advertising, because with all the media hype, they actually earn the equivalence of millions of dollars in ads, so they're gaining money not from sales. Just to conclude, it's a pity amongst all the brands, that MMM was the one who lost at Russian Roulette. So, I recently did a giveaway featuring an authentic Maison Martin Margiela piece, NOT a Margiela for H&M!

NEW OUTFIT: A MAN WITH A BLAZER

The real designer Martin Margiela left the maison in 2007 (officially 2009). This is the reason why everything changed!
I've just written a post about his entire career and I think it's very sad this kind of "mass commercial/marketing" approach for a niche brand as MMM. But they don't want to go back, this is the new spirit of MMM... without MM!

Yeah, this text makes me rethink a couple of things too... But I cannot deny that I was thrilled when the collab was announced and the collection published. MMM is one of my favorite designers, not that I permanently try to re-create their style, yet because I love the avant-garde approach to fashion by taking for exaple common - say - household things and re-edit them into clothing. I loved the idea that MMM "re-edited" key items from older collections and made them available to a rather affordable price. What you're right in is though the quality aspect; according to me not the lack of design-quality but material. I was also a bit bummed by touching some things and realize that they "feel" like H&M (using thin cotton or polyamid).
I really liked the collection nevertheless...
Have a great Sunday, handsome :) Tot snel :D

It might not be how we like to think about it, but the reality is fashion is a commercial industry, the people at the top only care about more advertising and more sales. That's it. We just have to try not buying into it...
